Extra Time and Penalty Shootouts at the FIFA World Cup 2026

The FIFA World Cup 2026 features an expanded format with 48 teams, meaning the knockout stage starts from the Round of 32.

Group Stage

In the group stage:

• Matches can end in a draw
• Each team receives 1 point
• Betting markets are settled based on the 90-minute result (plus stoppage time)

Knockout Stage

From the Round of 32 onwards:

• A winner must be decided

If the match is level after 90 minutes:
